Just to say how impressed I was with your entry into the ArtQuilt Elements 2010 exhibition. I came across Perspective with Trees when the organizers asked me to help publicize the event. I must admit that it is my favorite and I wish all the success you so richly deserve.

Hello Redmond-san,
I'm emailing you to let you know that your work 'Natigating Awareness'
has received an honorable mention in the Spring Online Competition!
Congratulations. Sincerely, Yukiko Sakuraba
Seacoast On Line April 2008 “Wen Redmond recently went to Ohio to tape a segment for "Quilted Arts TV," a Public Television show associated with the Quilted Arts Magazine. Redmond, of Portsmouth, had written an article for the latter's April/May 07 publication. "It explained how to make 3-D images ...; on fabric. So the editor called and asked me to do a segment for the TV show. How can you say no to that?" says Redmond. The segment will air in 2009. Redmond is known for an innovative holographic fiber technique, "which I THINK I developed," she says. "I've been working on it for three or four years." The TV segment "chats up" the processes. A related "Virtual Quilt Festival" workshop, which will be presented on its "Quilt Arts TV. co," will go into process. "You register and sign up for classes...; on a computer," says Redmond. "The workshop is an actual class going through the steps." Closer to home Redmond will teach four surface design classes at the Exeter Fine Crafts in April/May, (information at exeterfinecrafts.com or 778-8282). She's also scheduled for two solo shows this spring at the Village Gold Smith in Dover and at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth.” By Jeanné McCartin
Feb 2008 Wen has been invited to appear on the new Quilting Arts TV show, coming on Public TV stations nationally.
She will do an 8 min segment on her innovative digital fiber art. The segment is called Holographic Memories. In conjunction with this, she will also offer an hour workshop on this subject with Quilting Arts Festival, an upcoming virtual computer Quilt Festival, complete with workshops and galleries.
Jan 2008 Artist Wen Redmond of Strafford, NH has been selected as a finalist in the 2008 Niche Awards for the pieces entitled “Bird in Arms” in the Fiber: Pieced/Quilted category. Only 151 entries out of more than 1,100 submissions were named as finalists in this year’s competition. The awards program is sponsored by Niche magazine and the national Rosen crafts shows, the exclusive trade publication for progressive retailers. The Niche awards program began in 1990 to recognize the outstanding creative achievements of American crafts artist who produce work for craft galleries and retail stores. Judging is based on three main criteria: -Technical excellence, both in surface design and form -Market viability -A distinct quality of unique and creative thought
Wen,
I should tell you that your quilt Winter Tree received the most votes and has received the Viewers Choice award posted on our website. James Dyment Exhibits and Gallery Manager Whistler House Museum of Art. Lowell, MA
Boston Globe Correspondent | October 11, 2007 “Wen Redmond's creative warren is an inspiration in itself. Along a bank of windows that overlook the rocky falls, a cluster of crystals line one windowsill, sea shells another. To make her dreamy scenes, Redmond drapes transparent fabric over photos of rocks and trees. "Making art is all about inner reality," she said. "You put into it what you have inside." “Redmond built her reputation as a textile artist. Stretching beyond that that description, she’s making a mark with a new mix of medium, and a distinct look, using fabric, photo’s on cloth, stitching and found objects to create moody evocative works.”

“Wen has worked in the fiber field since 1973. Batik, soft sculpture, and weaving evolved into folk art quilts. She developed an innovative intuitive piecing method for her art quilts. This method is based on direct cutting and piecing. She continues to evolve and experiment. Her present work centers on abstract expressionism using her dyed and surface designs on natural fabrics. She has a fascination using manipulated digital images in her pieces. Wen’s latest work involves multiple layered constructions using digital photographs, silk noil and organza. She continues to evolve her chosen medium to see what it can do.”

It is our pleasure to announce the winners of the Innovative Fabric Imagery for Quilts exhibit. The exhibit was judged based upon the following criteria: Creative use of digital imagery and techniques; Originality of work; and Quality of workmanship. The exhibit was judged by Ricky Tims of The Quilt Show and Ricky Tims Studios and by Patricia Bolton, Editor of Quilting Arts magazine. It was a tough decision as the judges reviewed and debated the merits of each of the entries.
Honorable Mention: Shadow by Wen Redmond
Thank you to everyone who participated in the book and the exhibit. It is a stunning exhibit and shows very well. This is indeed a new era of quilting and you are all fiber artists on the cutting edge.
This exhibit has been well received at Quilt Market and is sure to be a big hit for Quilt Festival. Congratulations to the winners!

Wow! Wen Redmond is moving and a shaking. I highly recommend our collectors to really follow Redmond as she is all the rage and the magazines are noticing. Now she will be featured in a brand new show, Quilting Arts, named after its predecessor, Quilting Arts Magazine, which will feature creative fiber artists on their new show. Redmond will demonstrate her innovative fiber technique, Holographic Images. The show will also host a virtual Quilting Arts Festival in the future. The new show began airing on Public Television nationwide this past December. Contact your local PTV networks to pick up the show. The segment will air in 2009. I am excited to say Bowersock Gallery will have access to her new works arriving this spring. Steve Bowersock, Bowersock Gallery, Provincetown MA
